Periodic Evaluation and Amendment
The Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) requires Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) perform a written assessment (i.e., Periodic Evaluation) of their submitted GSPs at least one every 5-years after the submittal of their first GSP. The evaluation consists of: assessing GSP implementation progress, re-examination of the Sustainable Management Criteria (SMCs), tracking progress and status of local projects and management actions (PMAs), formally address any recommendation corrective actions issued during Department of Water Resources (DWR) initial review of the original GSP, and, provide notice, workshops, and public comment period before finalizing amendments or submitting documents to the DWR.
As of Fall 2024, the NASb GSAs have been working to prepare an evaluation. During this process, the NASb GSAs determined that the GSP should be amended. Three workshops have been held to discuss proposed changes and amendments – meeting materials for past meetings can be found here: https://nasbgroundwater.org/public-meetings/.
To support this effort and allow transparency and interested parties awareness, the NASb GSAs will be making the public draft of the Periodic Evaluation available on this page and the document will be posted here, when available.
A copy of the Public Draft NASb Amended GSP will be posted here, when available and a notice to those who have signed up as an interested party will be sent out when the document is available for review. The NASb GSAs welcome feedback and will continue to provide updates as work progresses towards completion of the Periodic Evaluation and NASb Amended GSP. The Subbasin aims to submit the two documents to the DWR by January 24, 2027. Public comments on the drafts are anticipated to be open to the public late September 2026.
Public Hearing dates anticipated by the NASb GSAs and agencies to adopt the NASb Amended GSP will be posted here once finalized.
